I was referred to read a great book by my buddy Scott Rammage. In short, it was about a businessman who was living for his business and was feeling burned out.
He signed up for an immersive hunting experience in Alaska where he had to face some difficult weather conditions, hunger and long rucks to track caribou.
When he returned he was more resilient and small things didn’t bother him as much. He was mentally and physically tougher.
Here’s some ways you can tell you’re going soft…
- Need air conditioning and climate control
- Park as close to the store and avoid stairs
- One problem can ruin your entire day
- Little things bother you
- You blame others for problems
The good news is that you can change at any moment by making a simple decision to difficult things.
There’s a formula to getting resilient and full of grit.
That formula is CHOOSING to do difficult things when EASY things are available.
Here’s some examples…
- Move everyday, make it tough, you’re stronger than you think
- Commit yourself to a no complaint challenge
- Learn to love stairs and hills, cringe at escalators
- Read when your brain says watch TV
- Skip dessert for a long time
- Cut out alcohol, smoking or anything that doesn’t serve you
I can go on and on with ideas but you have to choose what is right for you. There must be something physical and something mental.
Wake up and do something hard.
You will create an identity around being the person who does hard things not for punishment but because it makes you better.
You will gain tremendous confidence in yourself because you’ve been through hard things and you conquer hard things daily.
That makes you a difficult person to mess with. What triggers other people leaves you neutral. You believe in yourself more and know whatever goal you set you can accomplish.
Comfort is a silent killer. Our brain wants to avoid work. It looks for the easy path. It craves convenience.
Stay uncomfortable my friends!!
